Wow, let me tell you a little secret. shhhhh...are you listening? Hospitals absolutely hate the word "Epidemic"...only they hate the word "pandemic" even more (although granted most dont even know what that really means). What did you do all afternoon? oh, me? Well, i got to pull CDC guidelines, State procedures, policy, protocols and other stuff out of my a$$ to create a "Swine Flu Protocol". Called our software vendor and they had nothing, so i got to create all of the "tools" my docs will be using to diagnose, treat, and report swine flu. Honestly, it was fun! By tomorrow afternoon we will have an awesome set of tools to use with our electronic medical record should the need arise to diagnose, confirm, and deal with a swine flu case.
If you seriously read the above without yawning...good for you!
In truth, i think the media is all about shock and awe. Anything to get people to watch their network is news worthy. Lets see, highlights of the week::::Obama visits Central America, We get swine flu...coincidence? I Think Not!---I know, I know...its not the presidents fault...but seriously...you thought bush was a bumbling idiot? have you seen the highlight reel from this dude? Bowing to the saudi prince, his wife fondling the queen of England, the special olympics jokes?...All i can say for mainstream (i.e. drive by) media is grow a pair! I mean, GW Bush would pass gas in a public setting and it ran on the crawl for 3 days and was breaking news...Obama insults himself, world leaders and flat out lies about winston churchill and the treatment of German prisoners of war in WWII and he just slides by...sorry for being sensitive but i believe in justice, not favoritism...America...do the math, check the facts, and keep score...then talk to me in two years and tell me that you are still 100% on board with the liberal regime. Anyone out there planning on buying a Chrysler in the next 3 years please raise your hand...

The Cards win in DC against the hapless Nats. ( I think you could substitute the Savannah Sand Gnats and no one would know the difference) Tavarez...aka punch the phone and break my hand in the playoffs..former Cardinal and all...lead the implosion as the Cards scored 5 runs in the 9th and improve to an NL best 16-7 (check my math please)...unbelievable...all i want to do is go off on the Cardinal front office and they keep winning!...well, i guess i can't complain after all...good job Mo, way to put together a winner!

April 29, 2009----St. Lou"nacy"
Did everyone hear that the president was in Arnold, MO today? If you have, can you explain to me why Arnold? Just curious. Hey, maybe he drove by the Chrysler plant on 44 and said: "can't wait to get in there and tell them what cars to make"
I am also interested in thoughts on the "Sc-airforce 1" event yesterday. Please tell me that Obama really didn't know that someone was taking HIS airplane out for a joy ride around Manhattan! Seriously, i mean i understand stealing your parent's car for a little trip now and then, but not just any joe schmo can get AF1. Estimates are that this little adventure cost you and i over 300 thousand dollars. Guess it was really important to have those pictures updated, and frighten the crap out of a bunch of New Yorkers at the same time. Again, your government at work.
Unemployment numbers this week..super high, stimulus package in--not helping. I hate the be the one to push the impatient button, but does anyone feel like all of this frivilous blowing of money that doesn't exist is going to do anything worthwhile to our lives? I guess if you build bridges you might luck out, but what about people just laid off because the service they do (retail, etc) is in lower demand? Simple fact is: people make money, people spend money. When people spend money, companies need more people to create, transport, deliver and sell said product or service. People are only going to spend money if they feel like it is in their best interest to do so. Right now, i imagine most people are tightening the wallet and will continue to do so for the near future. I really hope this thing turns around soon, but i really dont think that trillions of dollars in funny money funding government pet projects is the answer.
On to sports: Cards / Braves tonight for the rubber match. Lohse looked good last night despite puking the whole game. No offense and a struggling bullpen once again spells L for the Cards. Maybe it wouldn't have mattered, but dont you wish the front office would have picked its "low hanging fruit" from a little higher? I mean the kids are really good and will be very successful...but we have to survive to give them the chance to learn. I am ecstatic for the Cards and their 14-6 start, but wonder how long they can sustain without the solid defense and clutch pitching.

April 27th --- Baseball, Politics, and Poor Investments
OK, so the Cards didn't show up to play Sunday. 10-3 loss to the Cubs not withstanding, it still was cool to be down there, in a box suite, and watchin the game (many thanks to my current employer for the great seats). Also, driving to the metro stop at Brentwood and takin the train there and back costs the same in terms of time but shaves about 20 dollars off the whole experience...just a thought...go Metro, save on parking and hassle.
Tonight, Pineiro pitches another gem as the Cards take game 1 against the "Bravos" 3-2. I grew up watching and loving everything the Braves did. Those were the days of Maddox, Avery, Smoltz and those were very good days.
On to politics...what the h3ll is up with GM? I swear its like they slept with a hooker and fell in love! Who sells a business to the Gub-Mint and the UAW. (Basically the communist 1-2 punch). So GM is going to scrap Pontiac in the near term, get rid of Saturn, Hummer, and Saab in the long term and give half of their company to the government and the unions to pay back some debt...WOW, guess i will be buying Ford soon (I drive a Pontiac now and love it by the way). Thanks GM and Obama for making sure that when i am ready to trade, my value is somewhere between a floating terd and the brown stains on the toilet seat that dont come off with bleach.
Speaking of our Premier, i mean President...seems as if the Franklin Mint and others have figured out a way to swindle millions of Americans. Not suprising as a "sucker is born every minute"---P.T. Barnum... but still...did anyone out there actually buy the 19.95 coin collection with his majesty's face on the quarters? Channel 5 here just ran piece where they exposed the coins as being very poor quality, only worth 1.25 but costing over 36.00 to the unsuspecting public hoping to cash in on a historic event in our history....People, wake up and take notes! The analogy was too perfect to pass up. You buy this coin collection for an investment of over 36.o0 after all fees only to find out that the paint peels off and its maximum value is 1.25 or the original value of the coins. The infrastructure of this country is being bought high (with your tax dollars) and will be sold low (probably to china in the form of debt)...all for what? That is the question you need to be asking! What is this country gaining? What has it gained so far? Has anything really improved? Would it have been better for the "Free Market" to have dicatated the course of this recession? History will show that this government's meddling did more to damage honest, hard working Americans than anything "big business" could have done. So please, keep your "commemorative coins"...my kids and grandkids will have enough debt to pay off that i am sure no one will forget this president or his legacy

April 24th---Cards win...Rams Draft
Gotta love they way the Cards spanked the Cubs today (unless you are a cubs fan that is)...but c'mon dude...do you throw a fast ball at puhols when the bases are loaded? Of Course you do, if you want him to hit it to Mars..which he did!...awesome game...Thanks to the bosses at St. Lukes i have suite tickets for tomorrow's game! Can't wait...Go CARDS!!!!!
Rams drafted an OT and a MLB today. Eh, ok...not a sexy set of pics, but probably exactly what the new football gurus at Rams park wanted. Hard workin, gutsy guys who bring a team mentality. No Southern California divas to distract the locker room or rankle the midwest fans here. Cant wait to see what Day 2 brings...hoping this team can get its act together....really sucks around here in football season when we suck
Had Soccer game today...If anyone knows how to teach a bunch of 5 year olds how to go to the ball and play offense please send your suggestions.

April 23rd---Cards/Cubs and personal thoughts
Good Freakin Game! Just watched the man with the crazy goatie (aka Franklin) close out a wild and wooly one at Busch. Cards 1 Cubs 0 (this round anyway). Good Luck to the RedBirds tomorrow.
Anyone watch Southland? Not sure about this show yet. Kinda feel like someone is replacing ER with the less attractive but more provocative replacement. It has its moments, but still not quite sure
Had fun today taking Boy #1 for some allergy testing. The end result after an hour and a half of fun and lots of little holes in his back is: no allergies! You would think that would help me, but all it does is make me more crazy. Looks like its claritin and nose spray for EVER! yeah us!...In truth all i want is for the boys to feel better and stop getting sick. I would like just 1 weekend at home when a kid is not on antibiotics, steroids, or some other means of keeping them "healthy". Maybe when they are 12 right?
Prayers for my dear mother. She is in NorthWest Haiti serving as a Nurse in a medical mission. It seems to have become her passion and I am so proud of her and all of the good things she does. Hope that the crew there touches lots of lives for the better and gets home safe when their job is done
Looking forward to Soccer game #3 tommorrow. Seems that the "Blue Sharks" are facing up agains the "white" team. Game time is 11:00am...hopefully the weather is good and the kids have fun.
Anyone wanting some politics fun...check out the Missouri House of Representatives. There is a story about how the House Republicans want to take a lot of the federal stimulus funds and convert them into "refund" checks to all tax payers in the state....I will let everyone draw their own conclusions on that one. There is a nice little discussion going on stltoday.com check it out if interested...look for the story and read the comments. I guess if everyone just took the money and gave it right to the people then...maybe...just maybe...we would no longer have a mortgage crisis or credit crunch...all the bills would get paid and the banks would be solvent again...guess i just think its a little stupid to throw our kids money away on stuff that is never going to help anyone. Oh well...thanks for reading...suggestions are always welcome..

April 22nd, 2009---its finally over...
Ahhhh, so the Blues cinderella season comes to an end in typical St. Louis fashion with an unchallenged goal at 19:42 in the 1st overtime period Tuesday night. Speaking for the 19000+ screaming fans, it SUCKED to see them go out like that. You have to credit Vancouver as they played the best, but you could just feel the energy in the place...right up to the moment that goal went past Mason and ended the Blues' brief playoff run. Oh and on a side note, traffic really sucked after the game. I will hopefully have some pics to post, the atmosphere was awesome with the front office guys even coming out during the pep rally to personally thank the fans...they have been a class act all year and have made me a hockey fan again. It felt good to get out and chill with an old friend and enjoy a little time away from the grind. Thanks to the wife for keeping the kids from going too crazy and thanks to Matt for knowing the back roads to get away from the 2 hour traffic jam.
As i write these words i am contemplating a night with more than 5 hours of sleep...it wont happen, but its fun to think about anyway. Hopefully will have some more stuff tomorrow...stay tuned!

April 21st---Website Under Construction!
I am really looking for some help in tweaking the content of this site. I will rant and rave like i always do (those that live with or near me get it without the computer)...but I want this little site to be a comforatable place to go to catch up on sports news in the area, see some funny videos, take a poll, share your thoughts, etc. Any ideas are appreciated and welcome...please comment on the site. I am adding it as a poll question for anyone who wants to participate.

April 20th, 2009---Wish i had seen that truck coming!
What the Hell happened this weekend? Here i was all in a flutter about how great the sports outlook here in town was going to be and just like that POOF! The sports gods givith and (if you are from the Lou) they totally pick pocket it back and leave you holding the check! DUDE! just hanging my head in shame about how the Cards let the Cubs get back into this thing. I guess the post-poned game on Sunday was a good thing after all.
And, what's up with the Blues? If they sucked i would understand, but they dont...they just look like they do. To steal a thought from the great Post-Dispatch Sports Writer Bernie Miklasz "the blues killed penalties like the Cardinals protect late inning leads." PERFECT! 3rd best in the NHL against the Powerplay, but they all of a sudden have a team stroke in the second period Sunday? They had a chance to put up a W and let it just wash away in a horrible second period. Lets hope they dont cough up their last chance to play in front of home ice this year and end the season by being the first team swept out of the playoffs.
On a lighter note: I did get to see some scoring this weekend. My hats off to the kids from the dark blue and light blue teams that squared off on a cool and damp Saturday morning to do battle on the mini-fields of O Fallon, MO. Good defense, offense and getting up after falling down. Lots of muddy knees and bruised spirits but everyone had fun.
Well, Happy Monday all...(and to sneak in some politics) Hope everyone brushes up on their spanish skills and Karl Marx trivia as it looks like Obama is going to sell us out to the latin 3rd world. Seems that all of the strife in the world is our (that is W's) fault. Somebody please find out what the book was that Hugo Chavez gave to our fearless leader...I think its: "How to be a tin-pot communist dictator while people love you: An Autobiography of Hugo Chavez" And i even think that Obama did the forward...maybe this is just his signed copy.

Friday the 17th-The beginning of a great sports weekend in the STL
The weather outside is absolutely gorgeous today! Hopefully gone are the dreary gray skies and snow flurries. Bring on the Sprummer (yep..we almost skipped through spring so i will call it sprummer from now on) Here is what America's Best Sports City has on tap today...
1:20pm local time: Cards/Cubs in urine drenched Wrigley Field. The Cards will send Rookie P.J. Walters to the mound to face the great Z in a NL Central Showdown. Maybe the cubbies can put a choke collar on Bradley so he will stop losing them games. Cardinal nation hopes that they can bounce back quickly and decisively from the loss (suprise) of Carpenter after yet another season threatening injury.
8:45pm local time: Blues/Canucks from sunny Vancouver Canada. Here the Blues hope to bounce back from a hard fought loss to the Canucks Wednesday night. There were hang-over's a plenty yesterday as weary blues fans made their way to work nursing the effects of "a few too many" from celebrating the Blues' first playoff appearance since '04. (NOTE) if you have been in the 'Lou for a while you may remember back in 2002 or 2003 that a picture ran in the post dispatch that showed a couple of guys reading a story about the blues and the caption was "Its April, must be time for Blues playoff hockey" Point: This city used to be spoiled by perinneal appearances by the blues who would surely fall in the first or second rounds....This team just seems like it is made of different stuff. Hopefully a good time to be had by all tonight and lets bring it back home tied 1-1!

Winners and Losers: April 15th, 2009
Here we go: Since the election i have been listening to a lot of talk radio and keeping track of how the political and social landscape has changed in such a short time. One thing i have begun to notice is that personal liberties are being eroded in the name of safety and security. I think that a lot of Americans truly support the president and wish him well in what is truly a historic event in American history (so do i). But, i cannot resolve those well wishes with what i am seeing happen all over this country. So as we contemplate our tax fate today (tax day) here is my stab at winners and losers:
Winners: Big Government and the drones sucking on the government tit
-Welcome to the big time y'all! Obama is going to take from the rich and give to the poor so that our "Country's wealth is returned to its rightful owners." Only one problem, people who dont produce will be getting paid while those of us who work hard will still get the shaft. Is there an opt-out clause on all of this crap? Geez, i wish there was
Losers: Everyone who makes too much to be considered poor, but not enough to be rich.
-That's us, the great middle class. We have unbearable mortgages but since we pay our bills on time we are not worthy of help. We have debt creeping out of control, but since we just get extra jobs or skip the dentist once a year we can pay the minimums so again, no help for us. Our taxes will go up, but not in the way that most people think. States and localities will raise sales tax to offset losses in revenue by all the people getting killed by this recession. Energy companies will raise rates to offset lack of supply or increased regulation by our "Green Team" in Washington. Gas will go up as Air standards are tightened. Eventually, this huge multi-trillion dollar pork package has to be paid...it will be paid by us, our kids and their kids.
Sorry for the rant, but i always find it irritating that most people only think of themselves and what they can gain out of government but not the impact that all of that will have on their American lives and what made this country great. So, April 15th 2009---the day that i flushed all my confiscated tax dollars down the liberal toilet...can't wait til next year!

Only one problem, people who dont produce will be getting paid while those of us who work hard will still get the shaft. Is there an opt-out clause on all of this crap? Geez, i wish there was

Winners and Losers: April 14th, 2009
Hopefully, my posts will be more balanced and not just rants on the inequities of life...so here is a stab at a format that some might like....I call it winners and losers
Winners:
U.S. Navy Seals and Captain Richard Phillips of the Maersk Alabama
---Seriously, this guy took one for the team. He chose to serve himself up as a hostage to spare his crew. What a hero! Some people talk brave, others live it...give this guy a medal. And then the SEALs! 3 simulataneous shots from 75 feet away into moving targets and all fatal...now that is some serious professional shooting! To top it all off they got a criminal in custody and the brave captain gets to go home to see his family. All of this on a day when Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and the chance at new life through God's grace. Too many blessings to count here.
Losers:
The Somali pirate scumbags
---Hopefully i will not offend anyone's sensibilities here, but what a bunch of scumbags. With a country has a level of corruption that would make an Illinois politician proud and nothing in the way of controls to keep these lunatics from attacking...what are we to do? Well, atleast this time 3 of them are taking a dirt nap while their families back home mourn their passing...LESSON: Dont be a scumbag pirate or you may get shot by one of America's Finest! Our Navy's mission (as i learned in high school) is to "Control the Seas and deny their use to a potential enemy". Hey Washington, dont you think that renegage states like Somalia and freelance pirates fall into the mission statement? I hope this sobers those bastards up some, but if it doesn't I hope we make it very clear that piracy will not be tolerated!

My First Official BLOG!
Hi there to anyone "brave" enough to read this. My name is Michael and I am the proud dad of two great boys (one of them a soccer player---hence the "original name") and the proud husband of a wife who seems to clean up after me just as much as the kids. I have a job, a house, two cars, friends, family, debt up to my eyeballs, and more stress than i can easily squeeze into what few leisure activities i am afforded in life. In short: I think i am like about a million of you out there, so hopefully some of my thoughts will ring true. Well here it goes:
"If you can't be a good example, you can serve as an example to others"
I chose this quote because I look around at my friends and see myself so many times as the "before success" picture. I blame it on personal mistakes, instant gratification, and just dumb (mostly financial) decisions. If i could only go back in time and undue some of these dumb decisions; would i be in the shape i am in now? SO for all you kids out there...here are 3 things to NOT do while in college:
1. Never, Ever, EVER sign up for the credit card with the 500 dollar limit
2. Never sign up for a personal line of credit attached to your checking account
3. Never use a department store credit card to buy clothes you cannot afford
Why say that? Don't all of these things help establish credit history so you will be able to take a loan out for the car or house or boat later on in life? Sure they do, if you are responsible. Most college students i know do not have the financial capacity on their own to balance this much credit. What happened to me is i ended up paying credit card payments for one card with cash advance checks from another...very stupid...please use this as an example of what not to do!
My advice now looking back in the mirror would be:
1. When you have the financial means, go ahead and sign up for your favorite department store card to get the 10-30% off or what ever.
2. When the bill comes in, pay it off
3. Use the card ONLY when you: (a) have the money to pay it off (b) when there are incentives like deep discounts and extras being offered...that way you end up getting to use their money during the grace period but end up getting paid in discounts or other services just for borrowing their money
4. As your financial means increase, go ahead and apply for another more general type of card; but make sure the card has: (a) no annual fee and (b) you can get incentives like discounted gas, groceries, airline points, etc for using it.
Dont worry too much about the extremely draconian interest rates since you are paying off in full each month.
Remember: Having an emergency source of income that you can access via credit card (like bail money in Mexico when you get locked up on Spring Break) is something to be desired, but do not fall into the buy now, pay for it when i have the money trap that I fell into much to my displeasure.
